Lil Wayne Defends Bill Belichick’s New UNC Coaching Role: “Simply Say ‘Congratulations’ or Nada!”

The sports world has been on fire following the announcement of Bill Belichick’s move to North Carolina as the new head coach. The former Patriots’ coach’s new role became a topic amongst football fans and celebrities alike.

On Thursday, Lil Wayne took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to call Belichick the “GOAT” and share his thoughts on the coaching legend’s new job.

“Man much respect 2da GOAT coach Bill Belichick!” Wayne wrote. “Not sure why they’re all hatin but I believe it to be envy and just a bunch of folks that don’t know how to simply say ‘congratulations’ or nada!”

To top off his statement, Wayne referenced his own song “Love Me Or Hate Me,” stating, “A wise man once said, ‘u can luv me or hate me, I swear it won’t make me or break me.’ Ironically, the next line in the track is, “I’m goin’ wherever tha money take me,” which is fitting since Belichick will reportedly earn an estimated $10 million each year over the next five years at North Carolina.

But Wayne isn’t the only celebrity with something to say about Belichick’s move. Deion Sanders, coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, also chimed into the conversation to defend Belichick’s decision and offer him some encouragement.

“Coach Bill Belichick is a coaches Coach to All us Coaches along with my man Coach Saban!” Sanders tweeted. “They’re game changers and they know how to move people forward. I know this is a great thing for College Football & for North Carolina. God bless u Coach, if you’re happy I am 2! #CoachPrime”
