Luigi Mangione Hires Top Attorney Karen Friedman Agnifilo in UnitedHealthcare CEO Murder Case
As new information regarding UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s death surfaces, suspect Luigi Mangione has reportedly retained legal counseling from prominent New York attorney Karen Friedman Agnifilo to defend him against the second-degree murder charge.
To give some background on Agnifilo, the seasoned attorney served as the chief assistant district attorney in Manhattan for seven years under Cyrus Vance Jr. before moving to a private practice in 2021. Known for her deep understanding of the courtroom and huge network, bringing Agnifilo on board explains the seriousness of this case.
Currently, Mangione remains in custody in Pennsylvania and faces gun-related charges while also fighting being extradited to New York. But, in other news, authorities have recently announced that a 3D-printed handgun was found during Mangione’s arrest that matches the shell casings that were discovered at the crime scene. Additionally, fingerprints that matched Mangione’s were also recovered from the scene.
Outside of that, investigators reportedly got ahold of a handwritten note in Mangione’s possession that detailed his motives, “corporate greed” and the healthcare industry. According to an NYPD intelligence report, Mangione saw the attack on Thompson as a “symbolic takedown” of systematic corruption. The statement also stated Mangione’s social media history and writings including a notebook filled with grievances against corporate America.
Nonetheless, Mangione’s Pennsylvania-based attorney, Thomas Dickey, has denied that his client was involved in Thompson’s murder as he has pleaded not guilty to all charges. As of now, Mangione is facing several charges in Pennsylvania including allegations of possessing a firearm and forging documents.
