“As most of you know I’ve had the flu for a few days now,” he began his message posted to his Instagram Story Wednesday morning.
The singer said his voice was “compromised” but he had done everything to get it “in working order” for his performance in Glasgow the night before.
“Today I’ve had an ENT scope/camera down my throat and sadly I’ve haemorrhaged my right vocal cord, I’m absolutely heartbroken,” Fender wrote.

Fender was set to play a second show in Glasgow on December 17 before heading to Newcastle on December 20 for the final UK stops on his sold-out People Watching Tour.
The star admitted all he wanted was to continue performing, but was advised not to.
“I’ve had two separate ENT doctors say if I perform tonight I’m risking lasting damage to my voice and I have been advised to be on vocal rest and not use my voice for a prolonged length of time until it heals,” he explained.
“I’ve done everything by the book this tour living like a monk, it’s so unlucky.”
“I’m so, so sorry to all of you who are on your way tonight,” he said.
The singer said he and his team were trying to reschedule the UK shows.

“I’ve got a compromised immune system, and it’s because of a health condition which I haven’t spoken about yet, but I might do down the line,” he told the magazine.
“It’s one of those health issues that, when you read it on paper, people probably just immediately assume that I’m a goner.”
