Notting Hill cast: Then and now, including Julia Roberts, Hugh Grant, Rhys Ifans and more
Grant, 64, hasn’t been shy in recent years when it comes to sharing his distaste for his earlier work as a rom-com heartthrob.
“There’s a scene in this film where she’s in my house and the paps come to the front door and ring the bell and I think I just let her go past me and open the door, he told Vanity Fair “That’s awful.”
He and his love interest in the film, played by Julia Roberts, have an on-again-off-again relationship, with Thacker spending majority of the film pining for what could have been.
But when he finally gets his chance to make it happen, he once again let’s her go.
“I’ve never had a girlfriend, or indeed now wife, who hasn’t said, ‘Why the hell didn’t you stop her? What’s wrong with you?'” Grant said.
“And I don’t really have an answer to that – it’s how it was written. And I think he’s despicable, really.”
