Cody Simpson confirmed as leading role in Guys & Dolls musical on Sydney Harbour
Cody Simpson has been confirmed for an exciting new career venture.
The singer and former Olympic swimmer has been announced as the leading role of Sky Masterton in the Guys & Dolls musical on Sydney Harbour.
Opera Australia today announced that the star will make his Australian musical theatre debut alongside an all-star cast in a brand-new production of the award-winning Broadway musical.

Simpson, 27, will return to the entertainment industry with a bang, marking his first major musical gig since announcing his retirement from competitive swimming earlier this year.
The Gold Coast native signed his first international record deal at the age of 14, after finding stardom by uploading covers of popular music to YouTube.

After touring with Justin Bieber, Simpson’s first music debuted in the US Billboard 100 Top 10.
It is not the singer’s first time onstage. He made his Broadway musical debut in 2018 as the leading role of Dmitry in Anastasia.
Simpson’s role as Sky Masterton in Guys & Dolls was previously played by Marlon Brando; the 1955 film also featured Frank Sinatra.
“The role of Sky has always been one of my dream stage roles ever since I was first introduced to the story and the soundtrack of Guys & Dolls,” Simpson said in a statement.

“I fell in love with the film as a teenager when I first developed a passion for musical theatre prior to my debut on Broadway,” he continued.
“I’m drawn to 1940’s-50’s era, the music, the style, the fashion. I’m heavily inspired by the singers and crooners of the era and am excited to introduce this to the next generation.”

Simpson concluded: “It’s probably why the Guys & Dolls movie is an all-time favourite and Frank Sinatra in particular, is a major inspiration.”
The musical is directed by award-winner Shaun Rennie and promises “lots of laughs, show-stopping dance numbers all set on a larger than life slice of New York City designed by Brian Thomson with costumes by Jennifer Irwin.”
