The early possible Jets candidates to replace Joe Douglas as GM

The Jets fired Joe Douglas on Tuesday and now must begin the search for a new general manager. Here are some possible candidates:

Ray Agnew, Lions assistant GM: A former player, Agnew has served in multiple roles with the Rams and Lions and has been part of the turnaround in Detroit. His son is a Jets scout, so he knows plenty about the organization.

Mike Borgonzi, Chiefs assistant GM: He has been with the Chiefs since 2009, first learning from Scott Pioli and then being part of the championship Chiefs of Andy Reid and Brett Veach. He will be a candidate in high demand.

Ian Cunningham, Bears assistant GM: Cunningham has had a few interviews in recent years and has a similar background to Douglas with stops in Philadelphia and Baltimore.

Jacqueline Davidson, Buccaneers VP of football research: Many around the NFL expect Davidson to be the first female GM. She worked for the Jets for 11 years from 2007-18. Davidson was highly respected during her time with the Jets.

Thomas Dimitroff, former Falcons GM: Johnson may be looking for a GM with some experience. Dimitroff oversaw the Falcons from 2008-20 and led them to a Super Bowl. He has been working for an analytics company since 2022.

Ed Dodds, Colts assistant GM: Dodds’ name has consistently come up as a top GM candidate in recent years. He worked in Seattle before going to Indianapolis under Chris Ballard. He was a candidate for the Chargers last year and will be one of the top candidates this hiring cycle.

Brian Gaine, Bills assistant GM: If Johnson wants someone with ties to the Jets, Gaine is from the area and was on the team’s practice squad before starting his scouting career under Bill Parcells with the Jets. He was the Texans GM in 2018-19 and has been part of the Bills ascension to perennial winner.

Ryan Grigson, Vikings senior VP of player personnel: He served as the Colts GM from 2012-16 and was Executive of the Year in 2012. He inherited a 2-14 team and made the playoffs in each of his first three seasons in Indy.

Jeff Ireland, Saints assistant GM: Ireland served as the Dolphins GM from 2008-13 and learned under Parcells. He has since been in the New Orleans front office and has been part of some strong drafts there.

Louis Riddick, ESPN analyst: The former player turned analyst worked in the front office in Washington and Philadelphia before heading to TV. Riddick has gotten several GM interviews in recent years and is an out-of-the-box candidate who the Jets could interview right now.
