Akon Opens Up About Progress on His Akon City Project in Senegal
Akon is finally opening up to AllHipHop about the progress on his highly ambitious Akon City project in Senegal, a futuristic, eco-friendly hub powered by cryptocurrency that was first announced back in 2018.
While his early enthusiasm led him to announce the venture prematurely, he now admits he “promoted it way too early” in his excitement.
The city is still very much in development. “It’s a city. Nowhere near done,” Akon clarified during a recent interview.
The project, located in Mbodiene, Senegal, spans 2,000 acres and carries a massive $6 billion price tag.
Though groundbreaking began in 2020, Akon stresses that the scope and complexity of creating an entire city from scratch mean it will take time.
According to Akon, it’s a mission to give Africans the tools and resources to thrive.
The project is deeply personal for him, with Senegal serving as the heart of his heritage.
“I want to make a lasting impact that bridges the gap between the people of Senegal and the rest of the world,” he said.
Though it’s a lengthy process, Akon’s vision is clear: a transformative city that empowers Africa, both culturally and economically.
