Robert Irwin has an emotional moment seeing Steve Irwin’s wax figure at Madame Tussauds in Sydney after his own wax figure is unveiled
It was an emotional night for Robert Irwin.
This week, the Wildlife Warrior visited Madame Tussauds in Sydney‘s Darling Harbour for the unveiling of his wax figure.
But it was a pre-existing figure that nearly brought the 20-year-old to tears.

Whilst at the museum, Irwin took the time to take a look at his dad father Steve Irwin‘s wax figure, saying he needed to ‘take a moment’ upon seeing it.
“It’s a lot to take in,” Irwin said, holding back tears.
“Honestly, that actually, actually hit me … that’s weird, that’s pretty spot on – that’s actually really spot on… That is amazing, it’s the first time in a long time he’s not just a picture.”

For majority of his life, Irwin has only seen his dad in pictures and videos since he passed away in 2006 after being stung by a stingray.
So it’s no wonder the young Aussie became so emotional after seeing the surprisingly lifelike figure.
“Wow, haven’t seen him in 18 years,” Irwin added. “Sorry, wow wasn’t expecting that.”

For the past year, Madame Tussauds has been working to create a wax figure of Irwin, finally unveiling it yesterday evening, making him the youngest Aussie ever to be immortalised in wax.
His figure wears the signature Wildlife Warrior khakis and is holding a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV camera with a python draped over it.
Irwin shared that being honoured with the figure meant a lot to him, adding that his mission is, and always has been, to continue his father’s legacy.

“It really means a lot to my message, to my mission, to my purpose, to hopefully inspire others – particularly young people – that it doesn’t matter where you are, you can create change,” he said.
“Everything I do started from one bloke, one young bloke, little eight-year-old, moved up from Victoria, started a little roadside reptile park, and then became a crocodile hunter, I mean, the biggest voice in conservation.
“And the fact that you honour dad here too means a lot,” he added. “It’s special.”
