Donald Trump Picks Kash Patel as FBI Director, Pledges to Target Media [Video]
Former President Donald Trump has announced Kash Patel as his choice for FBI Director if re-elected in 2024. Patel, a staunch “America First” advocate and longtime ally, is already making waves with his bold agenda, including plans to hold media figures accountable for their alleged role in “rigging” the 2020 election.
Trump shared the announcement on Truth Social, calling Patel “a brilliant lawyer, investigator, and ‘America First’ fighter.” He added, “Kash has spent his career exposing corruption, defending justice, and protecting the American people.”
Patel’s nomination has sparked controversy, particularly over his comments about pursuing members of the media. During a December 2022 interview with Steve Bannon, Patel stated, “We’re going to come after the people in the media who lied about American citizens who helped Joe Biden rig presidential elections… whether it’s criminally or civilly.”
These remarks reflect Trump’s ongoing grievances over the 2020 election, which he continues to claim was stolen, despite no evidence of widespread voter fraud. Patel’s comments have drawn sharp criticism, with media organizations warning about the implications for press freedom.
In addition to his views on the media, Patel has outlined ambitious plans for the FBI. He has suggested closing the bureau’s Washington, D.C., headquarters and converting it into a “museum of the deep state.” Patel has also called for dramatically reducing the FBI’s size and scope, a move that would mark a significant departure from past leadership strategies.
Patel would replace Christopher Wray, who was appointed by Trump in 2017 but fell out of favor with the former president over perceived disloyalty.
While Trump’s base has praised Patel’s hardline stance, his nomination faces significant obstacles. Even with a Republican-controlled Senate, Patel’s polarizing reputation and controversial statements may complicate his confirmation process. Trump has signaled that he could use recess appointments to bypass Senate approval if necessary.
This bold nomination underscores Trump’s commitment to reshaping federal institutions and signals a potential clash over government accountability, media freedom, and the future of the FBI. As the 2024 election approaches, Patel’s nomination is certain to ignite further political debate.
