Jack Antonoff Teases Drake Over UMG Lawsuit
Super Producer Jack Antonoff teases Drake over Universal Music Group lawsuit while accepting Variety ‘Producer of the Decade’ Award.
Years from now when we look back on the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef we will remember “Taylor Made Freestyle” as a vital mistake. In the freestyle that featured Drake using AI voice filters to channel Snoop Dogg and Tupac he teased his opponent for waiting for Taylor Swift to drop.
Days later Kendrick would release “6:16 In LA” produced by Taylors main producer Jack Antonoff reports Billboard.
Before “6:16 In LA” was released Jack wasn’t associated with any rap artists and was the mega-producer known for delivering bops to the pop ladies.
Speaking on Taylor likely caused the unexpected work relationship between Lamar and Antonoff, who produced every song on GNX. Kendrick’s latest project GNX debuted atop the Billboard Hot 200 Albums chart alongside “Squabble Up,” which topped the Hot 100 songs chart.
Over the weekend Antonoff attended Variety’s Hitmaker Brunch where he accepted the award for “Producer of the Decade.”
While accepting the award he used the spotlight to poke fun at Drake who has been on the receiving end of jokes since “Not Like Us” released this summer.
“I’d like to announce that I’m suing Universal… that’s a pretty good joke you f*ckers…” Antonoff joked to the crowd during his acceptance speech.
In the aftermath of the hip-hop battle, Drake filed two legal motions: one alleging bots were used to manipulate the success of “Not Like Us” and another alleging defamation. As of now, Drake hasn’t officially filed a lawsuit, but a court date has been set in response to the legal findings.
Perhaps in the future, Drizzy should cease name-dropping during battle after seeing how Kendrick flipped his “Taylor-made” bullying into a No. 1 album.
