James Van Der Beek sells merchandise to fund cancer treatment
James Van Der Beek is feeling the pinch since his cancer diagnosis, selling his signed merchandise in order to pay the bills.
The actor, who recently revealed his diagnosis with colorectal cancer, advertised signed jerseys from his film Varsity Blues on his Instagram account.
He originally posted about the exclusive merchandise one week ago with a post to his account.

In the reel, he was seen posing with a football in a blue jersey emblazoned with the number four and Moxon, a callback to his character in the 1999 film.
“Merch drop! Excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of #VarsityBlues with a limited edition #4 Moxon jersey – each one personally autographed by me. Grab yours now at the link in my bio or head over to JVDB,” he penned.
“100% of my net proceeds will go to families recovering from the financial burden of cancer (including my own 😇).” he wrote.

He later advertised it again on his Instagram account yesterday, writing in a text overlay on top of the video, “Order now & get a signed one in time for Christmas.”
But it was the bottom text that was more telling, with the actor adding the hashtag #cancerisexpensive with a red heart at the end, as well as a link to the product mon his official website.
The autographed jerseys are priced at $125, while the ones without are priced at $63.

The actor revealed the news of his diagnosis in early November, but later revealed it had to be fast-tracked after another publication had said they would publish the news first.
He originally spoke to People, where he revealed his diagnosis, adding he is remaining optimistic about his health.
“I’ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family,” Van Der Beek told the publication.
Hours later, in an Instagram post, the Dawson’s Creek star explained his announcement via the magazine had been unexpectedly fast-tracked, meaning he didn’t get a chance to speak to some people in his life before the news was shared.
“There’s no playbook for how announce these things, but I’d planned on talking about it at length with People magazine at some point soon… to raise awareness and tell my story on my own terms,” he wrote.
“But that plan had to be altered early this morning when I was informed that a tabloid was going to run with the news.”
