Katt Williams’ Plan to Transform Military Base Into Studio Could Boost Alabama Film Industry
After unintentionally “opening the portal” earlier this year, comedian Katt Williams is bringing in fresh air with a new film studio.
According to reports, Williams recently purchased an Alabama military base, which he plans to convert into a cutting-edge studio. In an exclusive GQ interview, Williams shared his vision for the studio and his plans to follow in the footsteps of trailblazing filmmakers such as Tyler Perry.
“It’s just not fair to put all that pressure on Tyler Perry,” Williams said, suggesting that he will take on part of the load. “He can only do so much.”
Although Williams hasn’t revealed details about the studio, like its exact location, speculations say the property is the historic Fort McClellan barracks in Anniston, Alabama. Often referred to as “Starships,” this Cold War-era site was listed for $1.5 million and spans across more than 90 acres of land. It features 30 concrete buildings, 10 20-room barracks, two gymnasiums, and three million square feet of indoor space.
To add to the theory, Luxe Group broker Connie Alexander, who represented the seller, confirmed that the property was sold and purchased through an LLC. Additionally, Williams’ publicist, Amy Sisoyev, also confirmed the sale but stated that she could not reveal the specific details.
“I can’t disclose the amount or exact location just yet, but I can confirm that he has purchased a former military base in Alabama,” Sisoyev said.
Alabama is already home to several production companies, one of which is Red Sky Studios, located in Birmingham. Red Sky has worked with CBS Sports, Lionsgate, and more. Williams’ addition to the state’s film industry could attract more Hollywood heavyweights down South.
Nonetheless, the purchase is not only solidifying Williams’ legacy as a businessman but also shows that he is more than just an actor and comedian. Outside of his entrepreneurial spirit, Williams is also gearing up for his “Katt Williams: Heaven on Earth” tour, set to kick off next year.
