Mandarin QB Tramell Jones decommits from struggling Florida State
Elite 11 quarterback Tramell Jones broke off his long-time commitment to Florida State on Thursday, the latest jolt for the Seminoles in a miserable season.
The decommitment was reported by multiple recruiting outlets and means Jones, a senior at Mandarin, puts one of the top recruits in the country back on the market. Jones, a four-star prospect and All-News4JAX first-team selection last year, has been sidelined since Week 3 with a leg injury.
The Seminoles are 1-9 and have been one of the country’s worst teams. Head coach Mike Norvell fired offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Alex Atkins, defensive coordinator Adam Fuller and receivers coach Ron Dugans after a 52-3 loss to Notre Dame last Saturday.
Jones had been the longest-tenured member of the Seminoles 2025 recruiting class. He’s the sixth member of the class to decommit since the start of the college football season. Raines five-star offensive lineman Solomon Thomas remains committed to Seminoles and the highest-rated recruit in the class for Norvell.
Jones suffered a leg injury during a Week 2 win over Atlantic Coast and has missed the remainder of the season for the Mustangs (7-3). Before the injury, noes was 19 of 21 passing for 439 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions. In his career, Jones has 75 touchdown passes and 7,197 passing yards. Last June, Jones became just the sixth local player to earn the prestigious Elite 11 honor.
