During a recent sit-down with “Lemon Drop The Show,” the singer admitted to host Karleen Roy (@karleenroy) that he was not honest with himself during his previous relationships. He was with partner Monyetta Shaw from 2009 to 2013 and married to Crystal Renay Williams from 2016 to 2023. Unfortunately, he fathered a child outside his marriage with Sade Bagnerise, who he now has two children with. The infidelity played out publicly and led to Ne-Yo and Williams’ divorce. Now, the producer says he no longer has to hide the fact that monogamy is not for him.
“I am not s**tting on anyone who has figured out how to make that thing work for them. Again. everything’s not for everybody. Monogamy for you. It’s not for me. I realize this. I know this now, and it’s like a weight lifted off my shoulders,” he explained.
The 45-year-old has been the talk of social media since his divorce, proudly showing off his multiple girlfriends. Bagnerise called him out online, accusing him in April of being an absentee father. It’s unclear if they are still romantically linked, but Ne-Yo says his current lifestyle eliminates the need to hurt anyone’s feelings.
“I realized I spent so much time lying and trying to be somebody that I wasn’t for the sake of somebody else. Complete and utter time wasted when I could have just been exactly who I am, said exactly what I want, exactly how I’m rocking, exactly how I’m not, and then waited for those people to gravitate to me…That’s my reality now. I don’t have to lie anymore, and I’d be damned if I ever go back to that person that needed to lie for the appeasement of somebody else,” he added.
