Trailer for ‘Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy’:

What is the new ‘Bridget Jones’ movie about?

The film, directed by Michael Morris, will be based on the 2013 novel by Helen Fielding, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, which follows the story of a newly widowed Bridget who is trying to re-establish herself in the dating scene as a woman in her *gasp* 50s.

According to a press release, “Mark Darcy was killed on a humanitarian mission in the Sudan. Bridget’s now a single mother to 9-year-old Billy and 4-year-old Mabel, and is stuck in a state of emotional limbo, raising her children with help from her loyal friends and even her former lover, Daniel Cleaver.”

The synopsis continues, “Pressured by her Urban Family – Shazzer, Jude and Tom, her work colleague Miranda, her mother and her gynaecologist Dr. Rawlings – to forge a new path toward life and love, Bridget goes back to work and even tries dating apps, where she’s soon pursued by a dreamy enthusiastic younger man. Now juggling work, home and romance, Bridget grapples with the judgment of the perfect mums at school, worries about Billy as he struggles with the absence of his father, and engages in a series of awkward interactions with her son’s rational-to-a-fault science teacher.”

The original film, Bridget Jones’ Diary which came out in 2001, was about Bridget’s dating and love life in her 30s. That also starred Colin Firth. And then the second and third films, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and Bridget Jones’ Baby, kept Bridget’s story going, because yes, of course we all wanted to know what happened next!

Who is cast in the new ‘Bridget Jones’ movie?

Renée Zellweger is reprising her role as the quirky and loveable Bridget Jones – I mean, could we really have a Bridget film without her? Exactly.

Hugh Grant returns as the slimey Daniel Cleaver and Emma Thompson will play stern Dr. Rawlings once again.

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind’s Chiwetel Ejiofor plays science teacher Mr Walliker, One Day and The White Lotus star Leo Woodall plays Bridget’s young love interest Roxster, and Now You See Me’s Isla Fisher takes on the role of Rebecca, Bridget’s neighbour.

Colin Firth who starred as Mark Darcy in the original films, makes several appearances in Bridget’s flashbacks, but given the storyline, he’s not a main cast member this time.
