Olivia Munn staged an intervention and began randomly drug testing John Mulaney during pregnancy
John Mulaney has shared the drastic lengths his now-wife Olivia Munn went to in supporting his addiction recovery post-rehab.
The comedian has been open in the past about his addiction struggles. During the pandemic in 2020, he checked into rehab for help after a relapse.
In 2021, Mulaney announced he was expecting his first child with actress Olivia Munn.
Now, in a new interview with GQ, the comedian has revealed Munn staged a mini-intervention six months into her pregnancy. They weren’t officially dating at the time.

Mulaney, who had told the actress he was afraid of relapsing, shared they decided Munn would randomly drug test him.
The comedian said the random tests, which they continue to this day, are “like a relief”.
“I like to be able to not even have that be a question in her or anyone else’s mind,” he said.
“Something about peeing in that cup is like, I’m walking this walk. It gives me confidence.”

Speaking to the magazine, Munn said seeing Mulaney after rehab “was like watching a man in a tsunami”.
“I was watching someone newly sober, at the edge of a cliff, and I didn’t know him well enough to help him,” she said.
In the same interview, The Newsroom star admitted that when she got pregnant with their first son Malcolm, now aged two, she “barely knew” Mulaney.

“It wasn’t anything close to ‘dating’,” Munn said.
Mulaney and Munn reconnected in 2021 after they initially met at a wedding in 2013.
The pair welcomed their son Malcolm in November 2021.
In August 2024, the comedian confirmed during a television appearance they had tied the knot following reports of a secret wedding the month before.
On September 22, the couple revealed they had secretly welcomed a second child, daughter Méi June Mulaney, via surrogate amid Munn’s cancer battle.
The actress announced earlier in the year she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. She has candidly shared her health journey with fans in the months since.
