One local team headed for title game
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – News4JAX sports editor Justin Barney reveals his predictions for the third round of the high school football playoffs. All game times are Friday at 7 p.m. unless indicated.
Last week: 3-3. Season: 354-88 (.801).
Class 4A
St. Augustine (11-1) at Plantation American Heritage (10-2): As much as I’d like to go with the Yellow Jackets here, I think a road game against one of the best teams in the country is going to be a massive, massive obstacle. N4J pick: American Heritage 35, St. Augustine 23.
Class 3A
Sarasota Booker (10-3) at Raines (12-0): Vikings have a date with Miami Northwestern in the state championship game. This one won’t be close. N4J pick: Raines 44, Booker 20.
Class 1A
Trinity Christian (10-3) at Chaminade-Madonna (11-2): Last playoff loss that the Lions had was to Trinity in an epic 2020 championship game. Chaminade has developed into perhaps the best team in the state, regardless of classification since then. N4J pick: Chaminade 49, Trinity Christian 13.
