Rangers are more like the NHL’s dregs than they’re ready to admit

The five-game homestand that commenced on Nov. 30 and included four of the weaker teams in the league presented the Rangers with the opportunity to steer in the direction of their skid and get back on track.

First, the woeful Canadiens, and after a confrontation with the formidable Devils, here would be the dreadful Penguins, the mediocre Kraken and finally, to wrap it up on Dec. 9, the 32nd-and-last overall Blackhawks.

The Blueshirts were going to have their shot at much of the soft underbelly of a league that includes a mushy middle that is ever expanding, kind of like a blob in science fiction movies.

But the funny thing is that these opponents are feeling the same way about the Rangers. The tired, the poor, the NHL’s huddled masses, they are lining up for a shot at the team that has the league’s worst record (2-7-0) and worst win percentage (.222) since November 21.
