Reason longtime Hollywood couple Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen wouldn’t have worked out if they met earlier
Ted Danson doesn’t think it would have worked out with his wife Mary Steenburgen if they met when they were younger.
Danson, 76, and Steenburgen, 71, are one of the Hollywood’s golden couples, having been in a relationship for over three decades.
The couple met in the early ’80s before they started dating in 1993 and got married two years later. Years on, they’re still going strong.
But in a new interview with People, Danson opened up about how being in his 40s was crucial to his and Steenburgen’s relationship success.

When discussing how it would have gone if they struck up a romance earlier on, Danson said, “Guarantee you the answer is no. I’ll just speak for myself.”
“I was not really fully emotionally baked until shortly before I met Mary,” he explained.
Speaking of before he met Steenburgen, the Cheers actor added: “I had, about a year before, decided I want to become a more emotionally mature, honest human being.”

“I worked very hard at it or I don’t think Mary Steenburgen would’ve even seen me. So yeah. The answer is no. Thank God we didn’t meet earlier.”
Danson and Steenburgen have both been in Hollywood for decades.

Danson is known for his work on the sitcom Cheers, Becker, The Good Place and more, while Steenburgen has an Oscar to her name her performance in Melvin and Howard.
After meeting at an audition in 1983, the pair reconnected a decade later while working on the film Pontiac Moon, in which they played an on-screen couple.
Both Danson and Steenburgen had been married previously.
Danson had been married twice. He shares two children with ex-wife Casey Coates
Meanwhile Steenburgen was famously married to actor Malcolm McDowell in the ’80s and has two children with him.

Danson and Steenburgen recently made a red carpet appearance at The Summer Book premiere at AFI Fest, in support of Steenburgen’s son Charlie McDowell who directed the movie.
The couple were pictured with Steenburgen’s kids Charlie and Lily, as well as her ex-husband Malcolm and his two sons Seamus Hudson and Beckett from his third marriage to Kelley Kuhr.
