Sandalwood moves in as top teams hold steady

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The News4JAX Super 6 boys soccer rankings will be published every Friday during the regular season — except during Thanksgiving and Christmas week. Records are through Dec. 5 games.

1. (1) Mandarin (5-0-2, Class 6A)

Quality wins: Englewood, Stanton, Wolfson.

Notable: The Mustangs rolled through Thanksgiving with a 2-0-1 mark, including a 2-all draw against Fleming Island and 8-0 romps over quality Wolfson and Stanton teams. Fletcher (Dec. 10) and Beachside (Dec. 16) are up next for the area’s top team. Daniel Moreno, David Garcia, Robert Calazans and Emir Trto have combined for 18 goals. The defense has posted four shutouts.

2. (2) Creekside (6-0-2, Class 7A)

Quality wins: Englewood, Ponte Vedra, Sandalwood.

Notable: The Knights keep rolling. They beat Stanton (4-0) and Fletcher (2-0) since our last Super 6. A tough Spruce Creek is up next on Saturday. Eric Camero is up to nine goals, followed by Javier Aponte (5 goals) and Michael Donahue (4 goals). have scored 13 goals for Creekside. In goal, Clark England has stopped 33 of the 35 shots he’s faced.

3. (5) Ponte Vedra (6-1, Class 5A)

Quality wins: Fleming Island, Nease, Oakleaf, Tocoi Creek.

Notable: The Sharks move up two spots this week after a high quality 3-1 win over previous No. 3 Fleming Island. Ponte Vedra also added wins over Nease (1-0) and Tocoi Creek (2-0) since our last Super 6. Bartram Trail on Monday night is a tough assignment up next for the Sharks.

4. (4) Bartram Trail (6-0-1, Class 6A)

Quality wins: Nease, Spruce Creek, Tocoi Creek.

Notable: The Bears are 3-0-1 since our last Super 6, with solid wins over Menendez, Spruce Creek and Atlantic Coast. They had a 1-all draw against Oakleaf. Tough games ahead next week against Ponte Vedra (Monday) and Beachside (Tuesday). Michael Russell has a team-best nine goals and Brady Bless follows with five.

5. (3) Fleming Island (7-1-3, Class 5A)

Quality wins: Beachside, Nease.

Notable: The Golden Eagles went 2-1-1 since our last Super 6, beating Buchholz (4-2) and Nease (3-0), drawing with Matanzas (1-all) and losing to Ponte Vedra (3-1). Orange Park (Saturday) and Atlantic Coast (Monday) are next up. Ryker Dailey and Ethan Medlock have nine goals apiece. Daniel Vizcarrondo and Blake Gaucher have 13 goals between them.

6. (NR) Sandalwood (6-1, Class 7A)

Quality wins: Christ’s Church, Oakleaf

Notable: The Saints move into the Super 6 after three consecutive wins. They’ve lost just once, 2-0 to No. 2 Creekside. They’ve got a challenging game against Nease up on Tuesday.
