Top teams hold steady as Fortegra tourney looms

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The News4JAX Varsity 4 Super 6 boys high school basketball rankings will be published each Wednesday — except during the weeks of Thanksgiving and Christmas — through the regular season. Records are through Dec. 10.

1. (1) Jackson (6-0, Class 3A)

Quality wins: Bolles, Creekside, Impact Christian.

Notable: The Tigers haven’t played since our last Super 6 but jump back into action on Thursday against No. 5 Tocoi Creek in the Fortegra tournament opener. Jahari Simmons (17 ppg) and David Wilson (16 ppg) lead a Jackson team that will be favored to win that tournament this weekend.

2. (2) Ribault (6-0, Class 4A)

Quality wins: Creekside, Fletcher, Riverside, San Jose Prep.

Notable: The Trojans are rolling. They pounded San Jose Prep (79-47) and then edged rival Raines (76-73) since our last Super 6. They round out the week with Mandarin on Thursday. Jamian Jackson (16 ppg) Kaden Toure (15 ppg) are leading the Trojans.

3. (3) Providence (6-2, Class 2A)

Quality wins: Bolles, Eagle’s View, Ponte Vedra, Raines.

Notable: The Stallions have won four in a row, with solid Ws over Raines (50-45 in OT) and Eagle’s View (60-41) since our last Super 6. They visit Fernandina Beach on Friday to round out the week. William Stewart and Ryan Gornto are both averaging a team-best 13.9 ppg for Providence.

4. (4) Ponte Vedra (7-1, Class 5A)

Quality wins: Bartram Trail, Riverside, University Christian.

Notable: The Sharks won three games since our last Super 6, topping Wolfson (65-50), Nease (46-35) and Bartram Trail (56-29). They’re off until Dec. 17 when they host No. 6 Impact Christian. Maddox Palmer (12.9 ppg), David Sanchez Barrera (12.7 ppg) and Trace Westercamp (9.3 ppg) are powering Ponte Vedra.

5. (5) Tocoi Creek (7-0, Class 6A)

Quality wins: Bishop Kenny, Fleming Island, Raines.

Notable: Good open continues for the Toros, who handed Buchholz its first loss (49-34) and then handled Wolfson (57-32) since our last Super 6. Talk about a major clash up next against No. 1 Jackson at the Fortegra on Thursday.

6. (6) Impact Christian (4-2, Class 1A)

Quality wins: Creekside, Episcopal, Potter’s House, San Jose Prep.

Notable: Two quality wins for the Lions since our last Super 6; a 72-62 win over Potter’s House and a 60-59 OT win over Episcopal on Tuesday night. Impact visits Raines on Friday and then travels to Ponte Vedra on Dec. 17 in a big one. Ronald Clark (20 ppg) and Jeremiah Jones (15.6 ppg) are leading the Lions.
