UCF head coach Gus Malzahn resigning, taking job at Florida State
A few hours before Florida State hosts Florida on Saturday night, and less than 24 hours after UCF ended their season with a loss to Utah, news broke that Knights head coach Gus Malzahn is resigning to become the new offensive coordinator for the Seminoles, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Malzahn will reportedly be the primary play caller, taking over for head coach Mike Norvell, who fired offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins, defensive coordinator Adam Fuller and receivers coach Ron Dugans earlier this month.
Malzahn was hired by UCF in Feb. 2021 after former head coach Josh Heupel left to take the same job at Tennessee.
After finishing the season with a 4-8 record, UCF missed a bowl appearance and has now gone back-to-back seasons with a losing record under Malzahn.
The Seminoles (2-9) are capping off a forgettable season with the Sunshine Showdown against the Florida Gators. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. in Doak Campbell Stadium.
